Maui Homes for Sale in Hawaii

By Mark Harbison

Pines are invasive, so you'd be doing the island's ecology a favor by cutting one down and hauling it home for free. If you'd rather buy one, though, Maui should be very well stocked this year from a variety of sources.

Trees shipped from the mainland have recently become available for purchase, and Lowe's increased its shipment from two containers to three and a half this year, contrary to rumors saying there would be a short supply. Many feared that state agricultural cutbacks would hamstring inspectors and the containers would remain undelivered.

If you'd prefer to skip the import and support local tree growers, the Kula Botanical Gardens will begin selling their Monterey pines between 9a.m. and 4p.m. from Friday to Sunday and again on December 12th and 13th. Beyond that point, leftover trees will be sold at the garden's gift shop.

The Friends of Haleakala National Park will be leading an expedition to chop down pines on December 12. If you don't want a whole tree, you can have your pick of plenty of greenery to decorate your home with. Think of all the wreaths you could make! You can get more info on this at www.fhnp.org.
