South Maui Meet the Candidates

By Mark Harbison

As active members of your South Maui community, it's a very good idea to take the time to get to know all the candidates who will have an effect on the area, including those with county-wide influence.

Your vote really does matter, especially in such a small pool of voters, and these are delicate times where every little decision makes a big difference. The economy has taken a turn for the better in many ways, but things are still pretty raw for some. So on that note, the Kihei Community Association (KCA) is inviting you for the bi-annual Primary Election Candidates' Night. Here, you can meet every candidate who is looking for your vote if you are a South Maui resident.

The KCA is hosting the event with the popularly preferred "speed dating" style. The candidates will rotate from group to group so they can answer the individual questions any participant might have. This is an efficient and interesting way to get to know the candidates, and it's a great opportunity to ask questions about things that concern you the most.

The event will take place at the Kihei Community Center on August 17th and will start at 6pm and continue to 8pm. There will be pupus and a chance to talk story beforehand. Bring canned food donations for the Maui Food Bank if you can! If you need more information on all of this, see gokihei.org. Mahalo.
