Nutrition Presentation in Spreckelsville Maui

South Shore Maui Real Estate

By Mark Harbison

If you are interested in trying a vegetarian diet but you aren't quite sure whether you know enough about it to make the leap, there is an upcoming free presentation called "The Latest in Human Nutrition 2010." Michael Greger, M.D., will be presenting, and he is a physician, an author and an internationally recognized speaker on the subject of nutrition.

Dr. Greger's talk will include the findings he's made in clinical nutrition through his recent research on scholarly literature from around the world. He's looked at the latest cutting edge research from studies published in the last year in peer reviewed scientific nutrition journals. What does all that mean? It means that his information was obtained from sources that operate at the highest level of academic and scientific standards.

Hopefully, Dr. Greger will present what he's learned in a way that will be easily understood. In fact, it's a safe bet that he will, as his plan is to provide practical advice on using his dietary findings to prevent, treat and reverse chronic disease, and he'll do it in an interactive quiz format.

His advice should be taken seriously as he is kind of an academic heavyweight. He was a founding member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and his experience ranges from nutrition to food safety to public health issues. He has even lectured at the Conference of World Affairs, the International Bird Flu Summit, National Institutes of Health. He has testified before congress and defended Oprah Winfrey in the "meat defamation" trial.

Dr. Greger graduated from Cornell University School of Agriculture and Tufts University School of Medicine.  He is now the Director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture at the Humane Society of the United States.

The presentation will be held at the Kaunoa Senior Center in Spreckelsville on September 23rd from 7-8:30pm. For more information, call Laurelee Blanchard at 298-8544 or email her at laurelee@hawaii.rr.com. You can also visit vsh.org.
