Sleep With the Sharks at the Maui Ocean Center

South Shore Maui Homes in Kihei

By Mark Harbison

If you have any nature loving kids between the 3rd and 8th grade, the Maui Ocean Center is hosting a very cool sleepover just two days before Halloween. Your child will get to spend a spooky night with the sharks after the lights go out on this Halloween themed eve.

The Maui Ocean Center offers a different kind of experience after dusk, when the elusive nocturnal creatures make their presence known. Kids who get to experience this unique and fun event are accompanied by the Center's Ocean Naturalist guides and get the whole aquarium to themselves. They will also have the benefit of interactive hands-on discovery lessons including everything from fun ocean crafts to touching the creepy tide pool creatures and participating in supervised marine animal feedings. And there are also movies, of course.

Too bad it's just for kids! The fortunate youngsters who attend will learn all about the bizarre disguises and weird abilities of some of the ocean's freakiest fish. And yes, costumes are encouraged!

The $60 cost is a reasonable fee, considering that the money covers a pizza dinner, snacks and a continental breakfast. The Maui Ocean Center is a very important element in Maui's marine conservation community, so they are well worth supporting if you are an environmental enthusiast (or if your kids are). And one more perk, Maui Ocean Center members get 15% off.

The event takes place from 5:30p.m. Friday to 8a.m. Saturday. If you want more details on this event, call (808) 270-7075 or visit www.mauioceancenter.com.
