Public Meeting on Southwest Maui Watershed

South Maui Real Estate

By Mark Harbison

Interested in the Southwest Maui Watershed Plan (SMWP)? As South Maui real estate specialists, we like to keep an eye on what is happening in the community, and there is an upcoming presentation of the Southwest Maui Watershed Draft Characterization Report that will take place on October 25th at Kihei Charter Middle School at Lipoa.

If you are a South Maui home owner or resident, this presentation may interest you. Few things are as important to our quality of life and health as water. The Central Maui Soil and Water Conservation District is the sponsor behind this plan, and its goal is to improve water quality in the Hapapa, Wailea and Mo'oaloa watersheds of South Maui.

The project has also received funding by the Environmental Protection Agency via the Hawaii Department of Health. If you would like to be involved in the planning process, and you are part of the South Maui community, you should definitely stop by this meeting. Planners are always looking for input from those whose lives will be affected by their decisions. Oftentimes, community effort is required to achieve the healthiest, most successful results with regard to issues like water quality.

Many people feel that their opinions won't influence much when it comes to legislation and such, but every voice does make a difference in these outcomes. Maui is a small community, and that makes your voice even more significant. Consider yourself a big fish in a small pond, and share your thoughts, feelings and ideas to help shape your life and the lives of your neighbors.

If you need more details on this event, visit www.mauiwatershed.org. Meanwhile, if you aren't yet a homeowner but you are in the market for South Maui real estate, you've found our specialty. If you need any assistance, you'll find our contact information at the bottom of the page. Mahalo!
