Hawaii Tourism Authority Supports Maui Events

Several Maui events and programs have received supportive funding from the Hawaii Tourism Authority. This program, put into effect in 2002, was created to ensure that the Hawaiian islands would have plenty of cultural and entertaining events, year round, to enrich and support the tourism industry. The support of locally produced events contributes to Hawaiian jobs, visitor attraction and boosts the economy as a whole.
Some of the events in Maui County that will be receiving this funding are the following: Pacific Whale Foundation's World Whale Day on February 18, the Maui Classical Music Festival from May 3 to 11, Ebb & Flow Arts' North South East West Festival on June 23 and July 14 and 28, Ki-ho'alu Foundation's 21st Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival on June 24, Maui Academy of Performing Arts' Summer Under the Stars: Disney's Beauty & the Beast from July 13 to 28, Maui Arts and Cultural Center's Ku Mai Ka Hula on September 8, Valley Isle Road Runner's 42nd Maui Marathon from September 15 to 16, and Lahaina Restoration Foundation's Hawaiian Music Series, which will occur throughout the year.
The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) is a state agency that is responsible for setting tourism policy and direction while upholding sustainable growth for Hawaii's economy, developing and implementing tourism marketing plans, managing programs, events and activities to support the visitor industry, as well as conducting tourism-related research, promotional and outreach activities with both public and private sectors. The HTA was established in 1998.
Maui County will be receiving support for about 24 events during 2012. As a whole, the State of Hawaii will see over 100 events funded. A healthy visitor industry means a healthy Maui economy. Hopefully, we'll see continued economic improvements for our island and our state.
