Hawaii Pacific Export Council Training on Maui

Maui Real Estate Experts

By Mark Harbison

The Hawaii Pacific Export Council (DEC), held its Export University training program at the University of Hawaii Maui College this week, to help connect local companies with international buyers. Last year's training session generated export sales in the amount of $699,610 via its 68 participants. Hopefully this year's session will be an even greater success, which will be great for our economy.

The DEC is a non-profit organization, and funding for this training has come from the U.S. Small Business Administration and the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. The DEC held Export University training in Oahu in May, and now that they've completed their Maui session, they will move on to Kauai and the Big Island.

The DEC is made up of local leaders who have experience with international business and know how to expand local businesses into international markets. The DEC works with the U.S. Commercial Service and the Hawaii Export Assistance Center, and its past successes have proven it an asset to the community and the economy here on Maui.

As far as exports are concerned, Hawaii has a major edge on the competition when it comes to cultural recognition. That's because Hawaii isn't just a place, it's an idea, and as Maui real estate experts, we've seen that idea come to life over and over with new Maui home buyers who move here to live out their dreams. To most people, Hawaii means paradise in the beautiful, warm tropics, imbued with a colorful and unique culture. Now imagine the products (or even services) that would be made more desirable with a Hawaii or Maui label.

If you'd like to learn more about this organization, and you are perhaps considering expanding your business internationally, visit www.hawaiiexportsupport.com. Throughout the U.S. there are 56 councils and over 1,800 volunteers involved with DEC. Members are appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce based on their proficiency and expertise, so you can expect credible mentorship.
