Chili Cook-off Fundraiser for Children's Medical Care

The Maui Fair is approaching, and with it, the 8th Annual Maui County Department of Fire and Public Safety Chili Cook-off Fundraiser.

On September 30th, between 4-6pm, those with the best chili recipes will face off in whipping up the tastiest creation. The money generated will benefit Shriner's Hospitals for Children Patient Transportation Fund, which allows kids who are afflicted with fire related injuries to get the medical treatment and rehabilitation they need, regardless of what their family can afford. This is a great cause, so attending for the benefit of these kids is an added motivation to the scrumptious food and all the fun the Maui Fair has to offer. This event is just one of countless many that are all about improving life for our wonderful community, reminding us why we are so lucky to live on Maui.

In this competition, chefs from around Maui have been invited to compete against Maui firefighters, and all of them will be judged to decide whose chili is the most amazing. Think you've got the winning recipe? You can prepare and cook your chili at the Maui Fair Events Arena, which is located in the grassy area in front of the War Memorial Pool. That is also where the final presentation, awards and sampling will take place at around 5pm. If you need more details, call Chad Sambrano at (808) 357-2134

Are you a fan of great chili, and you just want to get some ono grinds (good food)? The public is encouraged to partake in this chili feast for a meager $1 donation per bowl, but you can donate more if you like, and you can sample several and vote for your favorite. Whoever gets the People's Choice Award wins $300.

For more information about this event, and the fair in general, visit www.mauifair.com. If you happen to be at the fair in the evening on the 30th, we hope you will stop by for this lively event to support a worthy cause that helps keep our community healthy and happy by taking care of our children. If, like us, you call South Maui home, the fair is located in Wailuku, just 15 minutes away and it's well worth the trip.
