It's almost time for the Maui community to get together for the Art of Trash exhibit of 2014, presented by Sharing Aloha Maui, a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainability. This fascinating, lively event provides residents from Maui County with an opportunity to express their creativity while simultaneously demonstrating the value of reusing materials that would otherwise be dumped in our landfills. If you're skeptical as to the quality of art that could come from reused materials, just look at the slideshow from Art of Trash 2013.
Some of the creations from past years are just fantastic, and really add a lot of meaning to the term up-cycling, which refers to reusing materials to make something better and more valuable. It's also an interesting challenge for artists, who are encouraged to create pieces with structure and meaning. It's challenging enough to do that with pencils and paintbrushes, let alone objects designed for some other function.
If you're interested in entering a piece, you can do so from 9:30am-3pm on April 19th at the Maui Mall, which is about twenty minutes if you're coming from the South Maui area. This is also where the exhibit will be held throughout late April and early May.
For those of you considering a Maui real estate purchase, this exhibit should tell you a lot about our community's dedication to sustainable living. It should also tell you how clever some of our artists can be. Click the first link if you need more information on this event. In the meantime, if you need assistance with your real estate search, you'll find our contact information at the bottom of the page. Mahalo!
