For all you food and wine connoisseurs considering a move to Maui, the upcoming 'Aipono Wine & Sake Dinner is a testament to the quality of dining to be found here on the island. There are those who are so hooked on amazing food and drink that they have a hard time leaving their old stomping grounds because they are just so attached to their favorite restaurants. But the world is full of new adventures, and there's a new rainbow of flavors around every turn. Attend this dinner and you might just find that Maui's culinary scene has more than enough to keep you satisfied.
On Saturday, October 4th, the 'Aipono Wine & Sake Dinner will be hosted by Morimoto Maui. 'Ai means "to eat" and pono means "excellence," which should give you an idea of what to expect. The reception will be at 5:30 and the dinner at 6. This dinner series brings in the industry's top winemakers to 'Aipono Award-winning restaurants like Morimoto Maui. The experience is meant to be intimate, educational and stimulating. Winery owners and representatives will make personal appearances, and you will also see Advanced Sommelier Charles Fredy of Chambers & Chambers Wine Merchants.
As for the cuisine, Morimoto Maui emphasizes the finest ingredients as the key to their artful culinary expression. Their seafood comes from local waters, or it's flown in overnight from the best markets around the world, like Japan's Tsukiji Fish Market. You'll find there are more than a few advantages to preparing incredible food in Hawaii. Being closer to Japan than the continental U.S. is just one of them. Executive Chef Greg Harrison has planned out the menu for this event, which will feature nigiri sushi, grilled octopus, hamachi and wagyu beef carpaccio. To complement the meal, Charles Fredy will present exceptional wines from around the world.
The price of the meal at $150 is well worth the festive quality of the food and the experience. After all, you will get appetizers at the reception, before the five-course dinner. Also, $25 from each dinner will go to the Maui Culinary Academy, and students who are apprenticing under Maui's top chefs will be helping to prepare the dinners. Not only will you get to taste what Maui has to offer, but you'll be contributing to the future of culinary excellence on the island.
