One of the joys of owning a beautiful Maui home is the land that surrounds it. Planning out your landscaping can be richly rewarding. You can use your imagination, learn from what others have done and discover your taste in plant types. The end result can be a source of relaxation and inspiration, not to mention the boost in curb appeal that adds to the charm of your property if you ever choose to sell.

When it comes to landscaping, the possibilities are almost limitless, depending on how much land you have to work with, and where your property is located. For example, if you have a South Maui home, you will have the easiest time with species that don't need much water, which would be the opposite if your property was in a rainier area like Haiku.

If you're not sure what you want, why not swing by Maui Nui Botanical Gardens for its 13th Annual Arbor Day 1,000 Hawaiian Tree Giveaway on Saturday, November 5th. From 9am to noon, arborists will be giving one free Hawaiian tree per person. That means if you bring yourself and two other people with you (of any age), then you can take three trees home with you. Not only is this a rare opportunity to get free native Hawaiian tree species, but you can also get expert advice on the types of trees that will grow best where your property is located.

If you're still on the fence, let us offer you some encouragement. Hawaii's native trees are beautiful, unique, and nearly impossible to find anywhere other than in Hawaii. This event is a wonderful way to learn about them, and connect with other people who are interested in landscaping with these valuable species. Trees aren't just prized for their wood and for their beauty. For example, they can also change the conditions down on the ground quite dramatically, with their shade filtering the sunlight and creating cooler temperatures, which in turn slows down evaporation of moisture. These conditions in turn pave the way for some of Maui's most beautiful low-growing plants.

To learn more about this once-per-year opportunity, you can visit the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens' facebook page at www.facebook.com/MauiNuiBotanicalGardens or you can call (808) 249-2798. As for your Maui real estate needs, you'll find our contact information at the bottom of the page. We would be happy to assist you! Mahalo!
