This week, we'd like to share something a little different with our readers who are on the hunt for Maui real estate. The market isn't only made up of homes in neighborhoods full of other homes. You can also find unique, rural properties where the natural landscape provides plenty of privacy, not to mention space for growing plants and keeping animals.
With that in mind, we wanted to share a very special 12-acre garden plantation and single-family home in Hana. Imagine lush tropical landscaping so healthy, your challenge isn't to help it grow, but to slow it down. You'll find a sweeping gravel driveway that winds 520 feet through palms, blooming trees, sprawling lawns and flowering vines on the way to the main house.
The home itself features two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a total of 1,728 square feet of living space, all with traditional Hawaiian plantation-style details in its design. The exterior is a charming white in color, and there's a large front porch for relaxing and socializing. The enclosed two-car carport will help to keep your vehicles clean and protected from the elements.
Step inside and you'll discover an elegant slate foyer leading to the downstairs bedroom and bathroom on the left, while the spacious and airy "great room" opens up on the right. There, you'll find the charming living, dining and kitchen areas where you can cook, relax, and entertain friends and relatives to your heart's content. The kitchen features a lovely alcove window with a wide sill for plants and a beautiful view of the garden.
The living room and the ground-floor bedroom open to a screened off Brazilian walnut deck, just waiting for the outdoor furnishings of your choice. The master bedroom suite is located up the stairs to the second floor, and has its own balcony, as well as a walk-in closet. The adjoining bathroom boasts a deep oval tub, a glass shower and a tile floor.
One of the things that stands out about this home is the quality of materials used to build it. The walls and high-beamed ceilings are made from cedar, while the flooring includes eucalyptus wood, slate and tile. The other feature that stands out is the variety of plant life to be found all over the property. In fact, this property has one of the largest collections of plant types on the island. You'll find fruit trees, palms, vines, bamboos, flowering trees, and a variety of shrubs. The collection includes at least 500 species in total, some of them rare.
The property is bordered by undeveloped lots on two edges and state land on the third, so you'll have all the privacy and quiet that you could ever hope to enjoy. Imagine hearing just the soft rustle of the ocean breeze through the trees as you sit on your screened-in veranda, or walk the grounds.
To really appreciate the unique qualities of this property, you really need to see them in person. If you would like to set up a viewing, you'll find our contact information at the bottom of the page. In the meantime, you can browse through the photos of this remarkable Hana plantation home. Mahalo!
