Trick-or-Treat! Halloween is just around the corner and Maui has a wide variety of fun and safe venues to celebrate with your keiki (children). Whether you plan a year ahead or opt for a quick retail store grab, there’s tons of fun with haunted houses, trick-or-treating opportunities and of course - costume contests! Here’s a look at the upcoming events:
Upcountry Maui will be celebrating their monthly town party with a Keiki Costume Parade, Pumpkin Carving Contest, and the “Eerie Komoda Corral.” Entry is free and features road closures from Baldwin Avenue from Makawao Avenue to Brewer Street. There will be a multitude of vendors featuring delicious treats, shopping opportunities with local businesses, fun activities, free entertainment and a keiki zone at Komoda Bakery. Free parking will be available at the Makawao Baseyard (across from St. Joseph’s Church), the two parking lots on Brewer Road and also at the Makawao Municipal Parking Lot on Makawao Avenue. Keep in mind that the paid parking at the Makawao Hongwanji will not be available this month.
Support the Haku Baldwin Center in their largest fundraiser of the year! This extraordinary non-profit has been serving Maui for over 20 years. Proceeds from this event support their therapeutic programs tailored towards children and adults with special needs, military veterans, seniors, and patients of all ages. The event will be held at their site in Makawao and will feature a craft fair, farmers market, pony rides, petting zoo, face painting, balloon animals, carnival style games, silent auction, yummy goodies and more!
Join the South Maui community at their Halloween Kick Off Party! Each 4th Friday, Azeka Mauka Shopping Center lights up with the masses and offers up awesome fun for the entire family. The musical lineup is always amazing. This month there will be a salsa band, a dance group doing “Thriller,” Keiki Costume Contest in the Keiki Zone and Taiko Drummers. Entry is free and there will be free parking at Azeka One Makai, Kihei Plaza and at St. Theresa’s Church. There will be food for every palate, from pastele and sumo dogs, to teppanyaki and bbq.
The Outlets of Maui, in Lahaina, is featuring a month-long series of events that lead up to Halloween. On Saturday, October 28th, from 3PM-6PM, they’re having a Pre-Halloween Party featuring trick-or-treating at shops, games, face painting, crafts, pumpkin painting, a Haunted House of Horror, Maui Ocean Center’s Creepy Crawly Creature Station, live entertainment and even a free goodie bag for attendees! In Central Maui, Queen Kaahumanu Center will also have a Halloween event: Let’s Trick-or-Treat Together! Event will run from 5PM-7PM featuring store-to-store trick-or-treating with participating stores, a keiki costume contest and a Keiki Halloween Town with a $5 entry. QKC will also be participating in the annual Halloween “Stuff the Bus” for the Maui Food Bank Drive that kicks off in time for the holiday season. Event goers are encouraged to bring a non-perishable donation item.
