Hawaiian Paddle Sports, an eco-tour company on Maui, will be hosting its annual Thanksgiving Paddle for Hunger race. Since 2012, Hawaiian Paddle Sports has spearheaded Paddle for Hunger as part of its monthly Malama Maui give back program, supporting Maui Food Bank as the chosen December nonprofit.

For those looking to contribute to the greater good this Thanksgiving, bring you and your loved ones, along with a stand-up paddleboard, canoe, or surfboard, and head on down to the Kihei Canoe Club at 7 a.m. on Nov. 23. The race is free and open to the public; however, participants are encouraged to bring canned goods and/or offer a financial donation. Checks should be made payable to Maui Food Bank. Some suggested donations include canned meat and tuna, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meals and soups with protein, cereal, rice, and pasta. There will be designated donation locations in front of the Kihei Canoe Club the morning of the race.

The race will start at the club and head towards Kealia Pond River Mouth/Pavilion and circle back to Kihei Canoe Club Pier. While it is a race, it’s suppose to be fun! So don’t worry about winning and just enjoy the experience. Every participant will be given a ticket at registration with a chance to win a variety of door prizes. Any racer who donates more than $25 will automatically receive a free Paddle for Hunger T-shirt and an Outrigger Pizza coupon.

In 2016, the event raised $8,000 and gathered 1,050 pounds of food feeding more than 33,000 families in Maui County. Join the cause and register online today.

This year’s sponsors include Hana Ranch, Maui Food Bank, Aqua Aston Hospitality, the Grand Wailea, Kihei Canoe Club, The Ritz Carlton in Kapalua, Made in Hawaii Enterprises, the Fairmont Kea Lani, Travaasa Resorts, the Marriott Residence Inn, Maui Kayak Adventures, Maui Surf Lessons, Hawaii Mermaid Adventures, Maui Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Outrigger Zone, the Sheraton, Rebecca Pang & Co., Maui Ocean Center, Trilogy, Kaanapali Beach Hotel, Kuau Store, Olukai, the Four Seasons Resort Lanai, and Down the Hatch.
