Bring in the New Year in Paradise

So skip the New York Ball Drop and take a chance on an island-style New Years Eve.
December 08, 2017

Christmas is right around the corner and with this special holiday comes a celebration that only happens one night a year. That celebration is the one, the only, New Year’s Eve!

And what better way to ring in 2018 than with a night out on the Valley Isle? Enjoy an authentic Hawaiian festivity or spend the night watching fireworks from the shore. Not quite sure where to go or what to do? No worries! We have a few tips on how to spend this exciting night on Maui. Our list of recommendations will have you counting your blessings and soaking in the New Year the right way. So skip the New York Ball Drop and take a chance on an island-style New Year’s Eve.

Here are some events that are worth looking into:

  1. Drums of the Pacific Luau: Now this is a party! Maui’s own Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa puts on a one-of-a-kind New Year’s Eve show every year with Drums of the Pacific Luau. This traditional luau runs from 5-8 p.m. complete with an all-you-can-eat buffet that will feature Prime Rib and Roasted Potatoes in addition to the island dishes. Expect to see fire knife dancers and traditional storytelling and dance. There’s also a second-show option for the late night owls that runs from 9 p.m. until midnight. General, premium, and VIP is seating available.
  2. New Year's Cocktail Cruise: If you’re the waterman type, then perhaps a New Year’s Eve Cocktail cruise with Pacific Whale Foundation will fit your needs. Expect open-air seating and an excellent view of fireworks along the West Maui coast. The cruise will leave from the Lahaina or Maalaea Harbor at 10:15 p.m., 10:30 p.m., and 10:45 p.m. Trip includes a nice spread of appetizers and complimentary alcohol. Find out more by visiting the Pacific Whale Foundation.
  3. Dine in Wailea: On Maui’s south shore, Wailea has plenty of fine dining options. We recommend making reservations at the Monkeypod Kitchen, Ko Restaurant, or Humu Humu. These high-end restaurants aim to please and afterward, you can finish the night up by watching the fireworks on the nearby beaches.

We hope some of these tips help you plan ahead for the big night of the year. Whether you’re intrigued by the boat cruise or excited for the luau, this list goes to show there’s no shortage of excitement on Maui this New Year’s Eve.
