This February you will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the island’s most talented artists in the comfort of their own creative spaces. The Maui Open Studios Event offers self-guided tours of artist studios as well as various exhibition spaces. Did we mention these tours are free? Providing you with an insider’s look into each of these artists’ unique worlds as well as an opportunity to sit down and talk story with them. As part of this event, you will also have the chance to explore one or even multiple of Maui’s island districts each weekend over the course of the month.
The first weekend (2/10 and 2/11) is reserved for the artists of Upcountry Maui. If you are planning on taking a drive up the slopes of Haleakala, we suggest taking a stop in Makawao. Home to the works of the oil painter Matt Montagne or pastel guru Pamela Hayes, the paniolo (cowboy) town showcases their truly stunning work! The following weekend (2/17 and 2/18), open studio hours will be available in Lahaina, Kahuli, Paia, and Hana. If you are up for a scenic drive to the west side of the island, you should try to catch a glimpse of local artist Sarah Williams and her unique upcycled leather jewelry. As residents on Maui, we appreciate her focus on sustainability through art.
The final open studio weekend will be held in Kihei and Wailea on 2/24 and 2/25. As the perfect way to end this series, some artists worth exploring include Yasha’s Jewelry at the Wailea Gold and Emerald Golf Course next to Gannon’s Restaurant as well as Dale Zarrella’s wood, stone and bronze sculptures in Maui Meadows.
Studio hours run from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. each weekend. And while you are in the area checking out open studios, why not start your Maui real estate search? We have an elite selection to choose from here at Real Estate Maui Hawaii and our knowledgeable staff will make your next house hunt a breeze.
