While we are indeed in the business of selling everything from condos for sale in Kaanapali to homes for sale in Haiku Maui, we also enjoy selling you on some incredible island events that make living on the island worthwhile. Read on to learn about an incredible outdoor competition that brings top athletes to one of Maui’s best and most beloved beaches this fall.
Whether you're new to running or have been an avid competitor since the days of high school track, the XTERRA Kapalua Trail run is something that you will want to participate in this fall!
The XTERRA run is one of the world's premier off-road triathlons and includes a 1-mile swim that starts at D.T. Fleming Beach in front of the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua. But that's not all, the event also includes 20-miles of mountain biking through 3,500 feet up and down the lower slopes of the West Maui Mountains, and a 6.5-mile trail runs through the forest and ending on the beach sand. Oh, ya! You read that correctly. This run is intense!
Typically the race brings athletes from all around the world, including 800 racers, 75 professional and more than 700 amateurs from around 50 different countries. And if you've never participated in a race before, don't be shy or scared away. There are different levels and distances to join in, so even the most novice runner (and children) can partake in this heart-racing event. Participant fees for the 2019 XTERRA run ranges from $25-$40 with registration open until September 25.
The top 3 of each division will be awarded medals and prizes including the following:
●10K – The fastest male and female overall along with the fastest Maui resident male and female receive $100 TS Restaurant certificates.
●5K – The fastest male and female overall in addition to the fastest Maui resident male and female win $100 TS Restaurant certificates.
●3.3K – The fastest male and female overall as well as the fastest Maui resident male and female take home $100 TS Restaurant certificates.
●Keiki K – All runners will receive a medal.
The run is scheduled for 9 AM on Sunday, October 27. Runners will gather at the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua along the west side of the island. If you are wanting to participate but not sure if running is your jam, why not volunteer? As the event grows, so does the need for volunteers! XTERRA will need people to help with pre-race and race-day activities, so if that sounds like something more up your alley then email the volunteer coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org with what you are interested in doing along with your availability. And if you rather be a spectator, there will be a bounce house, face painting, games, live race reports, music, and so much more!
So start your training now and we’ll plan on seeing you this fall. In between training, make sure you continue to look through some of the great listings we have on our website and contact us when you see the perfect home for you. Have a great week, and stay healthy!
