Our lovely island of Maui is home to some incredible history. From the Road to Hana, Iao Valley, to the hillsides of Mt. Haleakala, there’s so much to learn about this unique part of the world. If you are a history buff like us and would love to learn more about where it is you call home or where you like to vacation from time to time then don’t worry because coming up soon you’ll have a chance to learn more with a special celebration of the Famous Banyan Tree on Front Street.

Known as one of the most famous landmarks in Lahaina, the Banyan Tree was planted in 1873 by the local Sheriff to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first missionaries. At the time, the tree was brought to the island from India and was just a mere 8 feet tall when it was planted. Now, this inspiring piece of history and nature has expanded to a dozen main trunks and crosses over two-thirds of an acre.

The Banyan Tree is known to be one of the best places to take a photograph on Maui and is situated by the Lahaina Harbor so afterward you can stroll down towards the boats and soak in the sunset. Or, after bringing along your date or loved ones, why not make an evening of it and stop by one of the many restaurants and coffee shops nearby and enjoy yourselves?

This event occurs every year on the third weekend in April and festivities will include a birthday cake, live music, a silent auction, featured Maui artists, and more. The event is free to the public from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., so you can stop by any time during the day and partake in the fun and community. We hope to see you there come April 19th.

In the meantime, why not plan ahead for your summer goals and start thinking now about what homes for sale you might be interested in looking at before the year is over. Whether you are in the market for a home in South Maui, want to be close to events like this and buy a home in Lahaina or a Lahaina condo, we can help you along with your housing search. Real estate on Maui is our specialty so please do not be afraid to contact us and let us know what you are looking for in terms of home for sale on the island.  We hope to hear from you soon and have a great spring!
