New Hawaiian Flight Between Maui and San Jose

September 16, 2011

News has come down the pipeline that Hawaiian Airlines has added a nonstop flight between San Jose, California and Maui, which will begin service in January. This also happens to be Hawaiian’s first nonstop service from San Jose to Kahului.

Adding this service is a good move for them, because Alaska seems to be outstripping them, not in performance, but in affordable flights between Hawaii and the western U.S. At this point, competitive prices are everything, and the more flights travelers have to choose from, the more airlines will have to make sure they aren’t charging in excess.

Anything that can keep visitors from being intimidated by expensive airfare to the islands is good for the economy. In fact, the airlines are the gatekeepers to Hawaii, in a way. A relatively small percentage of visitors get here by boats such as cruise liners, so the choices airlines make will always have a major impact on Hawaii’s economy.

This new flight will operate three days a week, starting on January 10th. The next day, they will also begin their service between Maui and Oakland, which is also located in the San Francisco Bay area. The flights from Maui will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays while the flights from San Jose will be on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The round trip fair will be $298 between now and September 14th, if travelers book flights between January and March.
