Kihei’s New Maui Outlets Shopping Center Underway

February 10, 2012

Eclipse Development Group’s new Maui Outlets shopping center is scheduled to begin construction soon. This nearly $300 million dollar project is intended to draw Maui tourists and state-wide local shoppers to the site. The Maui Outlets shopping center will cover 30 acres of land, becoming the largest outlet mall in all of Hawaii. There will be space for some 90 retail tenants to open stores, and the center will provide over 1,000 jobs to Maui residents.

Maui Outlets will provide 20,000 to 400,000 square feet per store, outdoor dining areas and water features are planned in their design. Eclipse Development’s goal is to create a warm environment, inspired by open street markets and Hawaiian culture. It is still unknown as to which shops will be moving into the planned spaces, but designer names are promised.

Eclipse Development Group LLC, is a California company that has made a name for themselves by redesigning old malls and turning them into stylish retail marketplaces. Though they have substantial experience in mall revival, this will be the first mall that the company has built from scratch. FFO Realty has signed on with Eclipse to arrange and manage leasing for the huge complex, and Strategy + Style Marketing Group has been placed at the head of public relations and advertising.

This shopping center project is situated on the mauka side of Pi’ilani Highway at Kaonoulu intersection. In total, Eclipse owns 75 acres of land, including the 30 acres Maui Outlets will be situated upon. There are also plans for a new highway connecting Haleakala Highway at Hali’imaile intersection with Kaonolulu Street in Kihei. Eclipse has agreed to construct the portion of the new highway that cuts through their acreage, while the state will be responsible for completing the rest of the road. Development for the Upcountry to Kihei road is still in an early phase, and there is no timeline for its construction or completion.

All in all though, we’re looking at some interesting changes to South Maui. If you are a prospective buyer and you are interested in Wailea real estate, or Kihei condos, you’ll find our contact information at the bottom of the page. We would be happy to assist you. Mahalo!
