According to the new Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, Hawaii workers have the best work environments in the nation. If living on Maui sounded too good to be true based on lifestyles outside of work, this news may surprise you. Securing a career on Maui depends on your skill set, but once you do, you are likely to reap the benefits outlined in the poll.
The well-being of Hawaii residents overall ranked No. 1 in the poll with a 71.1 on the index, which is up from our score of 70.2 in 2011. This is our fourth year in a row that we have secured the top rank in the country.
The well-being score for the nation on average was 66.7, up a bit from the 66.2 score of last year, but still a hair down from 66.8 in 2010. While Hawaii is well above the national average, South Carolina, Oklahoma and Nevada came in last with a score of 65.2.
Less surprisingly, Hawaii scored in at No. 1 for emotional health with 83.6, life evaluation with 57.2 and work environment with 54.1. Among the other categories Colorado came in first for physical health, Vermont was first for healthy behaviors and Massachusetts was first for access to basic necessities. Overall, we are proud that the positive qualities to living in Hawaii have been the best in the nation. The work environment rank should be especially motivating for those considering a move, and possibly buying Maui real estate.
A study from the University of Vermont recently reported that Hawaii was the happiest state overall based on the words used in tweets. The data collected for the study was enormous, and while a lot of positive things were said by vacationers, residents would have to be responsible for the majority of the pie.
