South Maui is getting a new pizza restaurant. The owners of Serino’s Pizza in Waikiki have decided to expand their successful business to take advantage of a nice South Maui property located in Azeka Shopping Center.

Serino’s Pizza in Waikiki has been flourishing enough to make them want to open a second restaurant. After considering locations on Oahu, the Big Island and Maui, they wisely chose the space in Kihei.

This second restaurant is going to be bigger than their original restaurant, with thirty employees as opposed to their original thirteen. The Kihei location will be 4,500 square feet with 100 seats and patio seating outside. According to Dana Serino who co-owns the restaurant with her husband Christian Serino, they will be a full-service restaurant serving pizzas, gourmet burgers, signature sandwiches, wings, etc.

Dana also praised the Azeka Shopping Center location that they chose. Hopefully they will help to maintain that relaxed island vibe that is typical of Hawaii restaurants. It feels good to know that they have been doing business in Hawaii for years, and they are expanding from another island, rather than the mainland, where things are a little different. It will be interesting to see what kind of reviews they generate, not that there are so many open forums for people to share their opinions online when it comes to cuisine, service, ambiance, and every other factor that makes up an experience.

Serino mentioned that they would like to open a third restaurant, which will likely be on Maui or Oahu by the end of 2013. If all goes well, they will open more after that. While it can be tricky to maintain that personal quality of your first restaurant when you open multiple branches, it is good to know that they are confident enough in the success of their business and the strength of Maui’s economy to expand here. Considering how well the visitor industry has been performing, it’s not much of a surprise.
