New Island Gourmet Market in Wailea

July 3, 2015

A new Island Gourmet Market is coming to The Shops at Wailea, so for all you residents and prospective South Maui real estate owners who like having options when it comes to shopping for food, you’ll have something new to look forward to. The Shops at Wailea already feature some excellent stores. The new market should make a nice new addition.

This will be the second Island Gourmet Market in Hawaii, and it is already under construction. It looks like it could be open within a few months, according to the Paul Kosasa, the CEO and President of ABC Stores, which is the market’s parent company. He also said that the market looks deceptively big from the outside, but it actually consists of 8,500 square feet of retail space. The building itself consists of 14,000 square feet.

Another plus for the market’s opening is that it will be hiring between 60 and 80 employees. This is another step in the right direction as far as jobs in South Maui, and will help strengthen the local economy. Kosasa stated that they are currently hiring and training employees now, so they will be ready when the market opens in the fall. September is their target.

You’ll find the market at 3750 Wailea Alanui Drive in the existing parking lot area at The Shops at Wailea. It includes a fresh gelato and coffee bar. Hopefully, the market will provide on more reason to not have to drive to Kahului to shop. If prices turn out to be a bit higher, you can always compare it to the cost of gas to drive to Kahului and back.

If you’re thinking about buying South Maui real estate, and convenience is important to you, then Island Gourmet Market is good news. For those who don’t like too much expansion, it’s nice to know this is simply replacing some parking lot space. As always, if you need assistance navigating the Maui real estate market, you’ll find our contact information at the bottom of the page. We look forward to helping you find your Maui dream home or condo. Mahalo!
