Dine on Maui Local Food Like a True Resident

February 8, 2019

Whether you are new to the island or have been enjoying the stellar real estate on Maui, we know one of the best aspects of living in Hawaii is the food. Local food is comforting, tasty, and filling. Knowing where to grab an ono (delicious) bite is half the battle! While some online resources promise they know the best local joints in all of Hawaii, we beg to differ. Here are our top local Maui restaurants to dine at!

Da Kitchen

This very popular restaurant has a location near the Kahului Airport and another in South Maui close to many of our favorite Kihei real estate areas. The portions of food are generous and you can order everything from lau lau to poke and so much more.

Sam Sato’s

This is a great place to eat breakfast island style but make sure to get there early as lines are usually out the door. Nestled in Central Maui in Wailuku, Sam Sato’s is an affordable noodle and plate lunch restaurant that is popular amongst visitors and residents alike. Enjoy some of their famous dry noodles, saimin, chow fun or try one of the acclaimed sandwiches.

Pukalani Superette

Now here’s a true local hideaway. Tucked away in Upcountry Maui near many of the homes for sale in Makawao is this little family-owned supermarket where you can get fresh bentos and local food like loco moco, breakfast items like fried rice with Portuguese sausage and more. Parking can be a bit tight, but you need to check it out if only for the experience.

Ono Kau Kau

This little West Maui hideout has everything you want from gravy burgers to teriyaki beef sandwiches. Close to many of the homes for sale in Lahaina, they are known for their fresh seafood, Chineses dishes, and Hawaiian mixed plate specials. The prices are cheap and the food is good!

Did we make you hungry yet? We hope so! These are just a few of our favorites but don’t take our word for it. Try these spots out during your next meal and let us know which one you liked the most. Have a great rest of the week. We’ll see you next time. Aloha!
