Hawaii Grant to Help Disabled with Employment

October 7, 2011

According to recent news Hawaii is a lucky recipient of grant money from the U.S. Department of Labor, to provide better training, education and employment opportunities for disabled people who are having a hard time getting a job, or earning enough to live comfortably. Just six other states were awarded funds for this purpose. If the money is used wisely, hopefully it will improve many lives.

The total grant money that was distributed between the 7 states was $21.2 million. Of that amount, Hawaii’s state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations will get over $2.9 million under the Disability Employment Initiative. This means that those benefiting must be receiving Social Security disability benefits.

The 7 states receiving benefits are merely newcomers to the initiative. The others include California, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington and Wisconsin. There are nine other states who are receiving continuing grants within the program.

Hawaii’s economy isn’t like other states, depending on which island you live on.
