Recent news on Kihei’s new Maui Research and Technology Park revealed that Regency Namakua LLC will be building a 175-bed skilled nursing and memory care facility.
This valuable addition to the South Maui community will include two lots for a total space of just under five acres of property in Kihei at N. Ninau St. and has been funded by Regency Venture Fund Maui LLLP, which is part of the Hawaiian Islands Regional Center.
The 250 acre Tech Park will probably have to wait until October for the Hawaii Land Use Commission to switch its designation from agricultural to urban. Approvals are still needed from the Maui Planning Commission and the Maui County Council, and build-out isn’t expected to be complete until 2034, but it’s definitely a long-term project worth keeping an eye on.
The development also includes the Kihei Charter School and the Maui Brewing Co.’s new brewery/brewpub, the latter of which is no less than 41,000 square feet in size. Developers hope to attract research and technology businesses in the future.
The Tech Center has the support of the Kihei Community Association, the planning department and the county administration. In fact, if you’re a South Maui home owner or resident, you may want to stop in for the Kihei Community Association meetings to keep track of important developments like this one, and discuss and share your views about future changes in the community.
