Central Maui Real Estate

Central Maui Real EstateThe next stop on our blog tour is bustling Central Maui, which includes Kahului and Wailuku. Central Maui is also the business center of the island, thanks to the convenient distances between this area and all the other major districts.

Kahului - This is where you'll find the island's only commercial airport and its primary harbor. Most of the island's big retailers are located in Kahului, including big box stores such as Costco, Walmart and Kmart. You'll find shopping malls, car dealerships, restaurants, and grocery stores, along with a slew of various other businesses. The Maui Arts and Cultural Center is also located in Kahului, where it hosts concerts, art shows, performances, and many other enriching events. Located at sea level, Kahului's weather is generally balmy and warm, but with refreshing breezes, courtesy of the trade winds coming in from the north. Kahului real estate is generally limited to suburban communities with a broad range in pricing.

Wailuku - Nestled into the lower slopes of the lush West Maui Mountains, you'll find Wailuku. Most of Maui's government offices are located here, and so are Maui's primary police station and full service hospital, Maui Memorial Medical Center. There are plenty of historical sites to explore in this area, such as Main and Market streets where you'll find numerous small businesses and shops. First Friday in Wailuku is the island's original town party, and the others followed suit after its success. The Bailey House Museum and the Maui Tropical Plantation are both located in Wailuku. Make your way further up toward the mountains and the businesses will give way to more of a residential landscape. The higher you go, the more upscale homes you'll find, such as those located in the aptly named Wailuku Heights. The weather will also transition from the balmy warmth of Kahului to cooler and cloudier conditions. Continue your ascent and you'll find the region's crowning glory, Iao Valley and its famous Iao Needle. In ages past, a tremendous battle took place at this vivid historic site, and the event shaped a great deal of Maui's ancient Hawaiian history. Visitors routinely enjoy the dramatic landscape, the adventurous hiking trails, and the refreshing waters of the Iao Valley River.

If you envision your Maui dream home near all the conveniences that a tropical "city life" can provide, then you should definitely peruse the real estate listings of Kahului and Wailuku. You'll have more goods and services at your fingertips than anywhere else on the island. We hope we've given you a nice overview of Central Maui to help you with your search. If you need any more assistance, don't hesitate to contact us at the information provided at the bottom of the page. Mahalo!
