According to the latest news, the Maui Research and Technology Park has been approved to expand, and will add both commercial and residential space over the span of two 10-year phases. The Maui Planning Commission has recommended approval by the County Council for the land-use changes necessary for this expansion.
If you’ve missed our prior blog entries on this important South Maui development, it is situated on the mauka (mountain) side of Piilani Highway in Kihei. The new single- and multi-family housing will include 1,250 units, along with a business hotel on its 414 acres. Only 40 acres have been developed so far. The current tenants are Akimeka, Boeing, the Maui Economic Development Board, the Maui High Performance Computing Center, and Pacific Defense Solutions.
The developers consist of a partnership between Maui R&T Partners and Pacific Rim Land and Woodridge Capital Partners.
As for the new business tenants, the Maui Brewing Company is building a 41,000 square-foot facility at the park and Regency Namakua LLC will be building a 175-bed skilled nursing and memory care facility on two lots purchased at the park. We wrote a blog on that specific development a while back, as you might remember if you read our blogs.
